• Teranga

Teranga, in the Wolof language, best translates to hospitality or generosity, but it represents more than just a word; it embodies a fundamental aspect of Senegalese culture—it's a way of life. Teranga involves extending overwhelming hospitality and love to guests, whether they are close family members or strangers.

  • شاي

Attaya is a green شاي (tea) that is central to Senegalese culture. The tea brews in a small kettle over a charcoal-lit fire, or whatever type of fire is available, and then we pour the tea into another small kettle and add sugar. One of the final and most iconic steps when making "attaya" is pouring the tea back and forth between two glasses or directly between the two small kettles to create a white foam in the glass that remains present throughout the serving process. The process of making this tea goes beyond just the actual brewing. The essence of making "attaya" is to create a social circle filled with dialogue, banter, and lifelong memories as friends/family gather around throughout the two-hour-long brewing/serving process.
